A backing board holds the neon tube in place and gives the sign a finished, easy-to-mount shape. It is the most popular option for walls, windows and reception areas because the whole sign hangs or fixes as one piece.
The board can be clear acrylic so the neon appears to float on the wall, a solid colour for contrast, or printed with a design behind the neon. We can cut it as a simple rectangle or contour it closely around the lettering for a cleaner look.
Fixing is usually with polished standoffs into the wall or a hanging chain in a window. The power cable can be routed to the side or bottom to suit the nearest plug point.

What affects the price
- Price depends on board size and material, how closely it is cut around the design, the length of neon tube and the number of colours. A formal quotation confirms the price.
Supplying measurements
Give us the wall or window space available and where the plug point is, so we can size the board and plan the cable route.
Artwork requirements
Send your logo or wording, and tell us which board style you prefer: clear, coloured, printed, rectangular or contour-cut.
Survey and installation
Neon signs are made in our workshop and supplied ready to hang or mount. Installation is quoted separately where we offer it; for orders outside South Africa we supply and deliver, and the sign is fitted locally. Mains-powered signs should be connected by a qualified electrician.
Maintenance
Clean the acrylic with a soft cloth and a little mild soapy water with the power off. Avoid harsh cleaners, which can cloud acrylic.
Frequently asked questions
Which backing looks best?
Clear acrylic gives a floating look on most walls; a coloured or black board adds contrast on busy or light backgrounds.
How is it mounted?
Usually with standoffs into the wall or with a hanging chain in a window. We include the fixings for the option you choose.
Can the board be cut to the shape of my logo?
Yes, we can contour-cut the board closely around the design.
