Gold-leaf lettering adds luxury to glass doors and signboards, and gold foil printing can carry the look onto business cards and stationery. We discuss real gold-leaf and gold-effect vinyl options for your sign. Boldmedia Print Zimbabwe can match it with foiled print.
Gold-leaf lettering is a traditional technique where very thin sheets of gold are applied to glass, timber or other surfaces to create lettering with a deep, reflective shine. It is used on shop windows, law firm doors, jewellers, barbers and heritage interiors where a premium, classic look is wanted.
Real gold leaf has a mirror-like brilliance and does not tarnish, but it needs a skilled hand and is best on protected surfaces such as the inside of glass. Gold-effect vinyl and metallic prints are cheaper and quicker. They give a similar look from a distance but lack the depth of real leaf. We will help you choose based on budget and setting.

Supplying measurements
Measure the glass panel or surface and note whether the lettering will be applied to the inside or outside. Photos of the door or window help us place the design.
Artwork requirements
Provide your wording and logo, preferably as vector files. We can adapt a design to suit the gilding technique and send a proof before work starts.
Survey and installation
Gold leaf is applied on site, usually to the inside of the glass for protection. The area needs to be accessible and free of dust during the work.
Maintenance
Clean the glass gently and avoid scraping over gilded areas. Use a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner on the opposite side to the lettering where possible.

Does gold leaf tarnish?
Pure gold does not tarnish, though the protective coating and paint outlines may wear over time.
