Hazard warning signs need print that stays legible in dusty, wet or chemical environments. Boldmedia Print Zimbabwe prints hazard signs with protective laminates to your safety officer’s specification. We can also print hazard labels for containers.

Hazard warning signs alert people to a danger nearby: high voltage, flammable materials, corrosive substances, forklifts operating, slippery floors, overhead loads, hot surfaces and similar risks. They are recognised by a black pictogram on a yellow triangle with a black border, usually with a short text panel naming the hazard.

A good hazard sign names the specific danger, is placed where people approach it, and is made to last in that environment, whether that is a damp plant room or a dusty yard. They differ from prohibition and mandatory signs in that they inform rather than instruct, and are often used together, for example a high-voltage warning with a no-unauthorised-entry prohibition on the same door.

Where it works well

  • Electrical rooms, DB boards and substations
  • Chemical and flammable material stores
  • Forklift and moving vehicle zones
  • Wet floors, steps and uneven surfaces
  • Overhead crane and suspended load areas
  • Hot surfaces, compressed gas and machinery

Materials and finishes

  • Rigid PVC or ABS for indoor use
  • Aluminium for outdoor, hot or harsh areas
  • Self-adhesive vinyl for equipment, panels and doors
  • Photoluminescent material for low-light locations
  • Freestanding A-frames for temporary hazards such as wet floors
  • Combination hazard boards

What affects the price

  • Number of signs and hazard types
  • Sign size for the viewing distance
  • Material for the environment
  • Standard versus custom combination signs
  • Photoluminescent or reflective materials
  • Fixing and installation
  • Site safety requirements for access

Supplying measurements

List the hazards and where each sign is needed, and whether the surface is a wall, door, machine, fence or post. Note any extreme conditions such as heat, chemicals or wash-down areas.

Artwork requirements

Standard hazard symbols are used, so only the hazard type and any text are needed. Custom combined signs can include your logo and site details, supplied as vector artwork, with a proof before production.

Survey and installation

Signs can be supplied ready to fix or installed for you. In electrical or hazardous areas, access should be arranged with your safety officer, and signs are fitted without interfering with equipment.

Maintenance

Keep signs clean so the yellow background stays bright and visible. Replace signs that are faded, chemically damaged or no longer reflect the actual hazard.

Frequently asked questions

Which hazard signs does our site need?

This should come from your risk assessment or safety officer; we produce the signs they specify.

Can signs withstand chemical or wash-down areas?

Aluminium or suitable rigid plastics with protective finishes are better choices for these areas; tell us the conditions and we suggest a material.

Can you supply signs for the electrical room door?

Yes, electrical hazard and restricted entry signs are commonly supplied together.
