Steel signboards are built for strength and finished with printed or painted graphics. We apply laminated print or paint to steel boards for industrial and security uses. Boldmedia Print Zimbabwe ensures the graphics match your brand colours.

Steel signboards are made from mild or stainless steel sheet and are chosen when a sign must survive impact, heat or a harsh environment. They are common in mines, factories, workshops and secure sites, and are used for decorative cut-out signs and architectural features.

A good steel signboard is properly treated against corrosion, with galvanising, powder coating or stainless steel, and has a fixing method strong enough for its weight. Steel is heavier and stronger than aluminium, so it resists vandalism and impact better. That weight means it needs sturdier mounting and a structural check on larger sizes.

Where it works well

  • Mining and heavy industrial sites
  • Workshops, yards and loading areas
  • High-security and vandal-prone locations
  • Laser-cut decorative signs and gates
  • Plant and equipment identification
  • Rustic or industrial-style shopfronts

Materials and finishes

  • Mild steel with powder coating
  • Galvanised steel
  • Stainless steel, brushed or polished
  • Corten-style weathering steel finishes
  • Laser-cut lettering and shapes
  • Vinyl or painted graphics

Lighting options

  • Backlit cut-out letters with LED
  • External floodlighting

What affects the price

  • Steel type and thickness
  • Sign size and weight
  • Laser cutting complexity
  • Powder coating or other finish
  • Graphics method
  • Brackets and mounting structure
  • Installation access and lifting

Supplying measurements

Send the size of the sign and the wall, fence or structure it will mount on. Note any heat, chemical or impact exposure so we can recommend the right steel and finish.

Artwork requirements

Vector files (PDF, AI, DXF or SVG) are needed for laser cutting, with fonts outlined. Thin strokes may need thickening, and we will adjust the design so it cuts cleanly.

Survey and installation

Steel signs are heavy, so fixings and brackets must suit the weight. Large or elevated steel signs may need a site survey and engineering input where required.

Maintenance

Inspect the coating occasionally and touch up chips before rust spreads. Stainless steel only needs regular cleaning with a suitable cleaner.

Frequently asked questions

Is steel better than aluminium?

Steel is stronger and more impact resistant, while aluminium is lighter and naturally rust resistant. The site conditions decide which is better.

Can you make a rust-look sign?

Weathered or rust-look finishes can be produced. We will discuss how the finish ages before you decide.

Can steel signs be laser cut?

Yes. Laser cutting allows detailed letters and logos to be cut into or out of steel sheet.
